Managing frame revisions in a repair inventory

A part can become unsuitable without changing its familiar product name. Hole patterns, inserts or mating hardware may change between production revisions.

The purchasing decision

Create stock records with platform, drawing revision and approved substitute status. Separate unknown parts from serviceable stock. When a fleet contains several revisions, label bins by the actual service configuration rather than only by aircraft size.

Keep these records

  1. Platform-to-part mapping.
  2. Revision-specific storage labels.
  3. Change approval and effective date.

Give each record an owner and a revision or date. If a supplier proposes a different part or test condition, record it as an exception for review before treating the quotation as equivalent.

Turn the review into a sourcing request

Start with the linked component checklist, add the actual platform and part identity, and state quantity, destination and timing. List unresolved requirements explicitly so the first discussion can focus on those gaps.
